FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The technical detail behind the forecast — methodology, coverage, and data sources.

How often are day ahead forecasts published?

The day-ahead forecast is updated six times a day, every day. After day-ahead prices are published for the next electricity market day, forecasts are refreshed on this schedule (CET):

~15:00
19:00

next morning
06:00
07:30
08:30
10:00 (currently our last day-ahaed forecast before GCT)

Need updates more often? We can increase the frequency on request.

What period does the forecast cover, and at what resolution?

The forecast covers 12 days ahead, starting from the last known day-ahead price, available at hourly and 15-minute resolution.

How is the probability forecast generated, and what's it based on?

We generate probabilistic forecasts by running our model thousands of times with randomized variation, then applying a quantile-dependent loss function. All forecasts use the same input data — so the high, low, and median values reflect the model's internal uncertainty, not uncertainty in external variables like weather or demand.

During training, the low and high bounds represent the 10th and 90th percentiles. In practice, for the first forecast day, they typically land closer to the 25th and 75th percentiles.

What bidding zones do you cover?

Currently covered:

  • Finland (FI)
  • Estonia (EE)
  • Latvia (LV)
  • Lithuania (LT)
  • Poland (PL)
  • Sweden — SE1 & SE3
  • System Price (SYS)

Coming soon: DE_LU

We're expanding toward full European coverage, starting with the Nordics.

What data sources power the forecasts?

We use weather and electricity market data from Finland, the Nordics, the Baltics, and Central Europe, including:

  • Weather observations and forecasts
  • Urgent Market Messages (UMMs) — transmission, production, and consumption unavailabilities
  • Fuel prices
  • Hydrological conditions
  • Actual production by generation type
  • Production and transmission capacities
  • A subset of the Flow-Based transmission domain in the Nordics, as published by the Joint Allocation Office (JAO)
  • NTC allocations from the Baltics
Who is milloin.energy for?

Energy trading desks, energy utilities, energy optimization providers, flexible asset owners and energy-intensive industry with production (and sometimes generation) tied to market prices.
